On June 12, 2025, the HIVE 3D Design Lab was opened at our Business Park Aviolanda location. Supported by the Brabant Development Agency (BOM) and Business Park Aviolanda, and with the Dutch Drone Centre as the operational facilitator, this lab was set up to support the entire Hive Aerospace Collective. The aim is to offer all organizations in our civil-military cluster (including prospective start-ups and scale-ups) access to an approachable 3D printing environment and to disseminate available knowledge more widely.
Reason
The initiative to set up a skills lab in the field of 3D Printing, or Additive Manufacturing, stems from an earlier knowledge session on this topic. During this session, it became apparent that various parties within HIVE are already experimenting with this technology and that there is a need to further expand and share our expertise in this area.
Why 3D Printing in MRO?
- 3D printing is used for:
- Rapid availability of form-fit parts for design and engineering purposes
- Checking manufacturability
- Prototyping components, subsystems, and products
- Production of small series
- Production of tooling and auxiliary tools
- Preparation of replacement parts
