On June 30, 2026, an Innovation Knowledge Session on AI, Digitalization & Robotization was held within the HIVE Aerospace Collective. Speakers from Bit, Cirrix and Robita AI provided an update on the latest technologies and showcased several interesting applications and use cases. Attendees included professionals from HIVE partners Fokker Services Group, Aeronamic, StandardAero, ACRATS, NLR and the Royal Netherlands Air and Space Force, as well as representatives from external organizations such as KLM and JetSupport.

AI problem-solving power

Paul de Kuyper from Bit, an AI Innovation & R&D Studio, demonstrated how the amount of knowledge and information has grown exponentially over the past decades compared to previous centuries, while the human brain itself has not evolved. By combining human expertise with AI through hybrid intelligence, this ever-growing volume of data can be effectively managed and leveraged, unlocking unprecedented problem-solving capabilities.

One of the most compelling use cases presented by Paul showed how an AI application, trained by experienced senior employees, significantly reduced the onboarding time for new and inexperienced staff.

Digital Inspection Platform

Ryan Johnston, CEO of Cirrix, presented a new digital platform for (AI-assisted) visual inspections in the aviation industry. While inspectors have no shortage of cameras or paperwork, they often lack structured and comparable data. The Cirrix solution, validated by KLM, JetCenter and Fokker Services Group, brings together data from various systems into a single platform.

The platform serves as a knowledge base for inspectors and provides access to historical data, inspection workflows and the logging of new inspection results. This reduces turnaround times, accelerates the training of new inspectors and increases the first-time-right rate.

A robot with feeling

Finally, Mo Farza, CEO of Robita AI, demonstrated an automated surface treatment solution for polishing, sanding and grinding, using a portable robot. The robot automatically follows curved surfaces while consistently applying the exact required force. The solution requires minimal programming, saves labour hours, helps address labour shortages, requires only limited training and eliminates the need for tool changes.

The afternoon concluded with networking drinks.
