As part of the HIVE innovation agenda, we organized an off-site knowledge session at, and in cooperation with, Roboflex B.V. in Oosterhout (NL). This session, which took place on Tuesday, January 20, 2026 focused on “automated painting & surface preparation” and was attended by participants from all over the Netherlands.
Automation and robotization are hot topics that are being closely monitored, both within our civil-military aviation maintenance cluster in Woensdrecht and our broader HIVE network. The focus is on possible applications in MRO. The visit to Roboflex tied in seamlessly with this scope.
Roboflex has extensive experience in the use of robots for surface preparation and painting products in the aerospace sector. In addition to a general explanation, various methods of programming robots were discussed in detail. A painting robot was also demonstrated.
Roboflex has noticed that spray robots are being used more and more, not only for larger series, but also for small series and regularly recurring single-piece orders. This led to a lively discussion about possible applications and use cases within MRO environments.
