On Monday, 1 December 2025, Forest Ranger Erik de Jonge and Fundraiser Maaike van de Wiel from the nature conservation organisation ‘Brabants Landschap‘ received a warm welcome at Business Park Aviolanda, the civil location within the Hive Aerospace Collective. The reason for the visit was the official handover of a new drone rescue kit sponsored by the business park.
This kit enables forest rangers to locate fawns, for example, so that they can be rescued from the mowing area, or to detect poachers before they cause any damage. During the visit, forest ranger Erik gave a short flying demonstration at the Dutch Drone Centre, where he was previously trained as a drone pilot.
The meeting also provided an opportunity to visit the recently completed bat tower in the De Vinkenberg nature reserve. This tower, also financed by Business Park Aviolanda, is equipped with high entry openings that give bats access to the old brick factory.
The factory has now been covered with a layer of drifting sand and – with a few targeted modifications – transformed into a kind of bat hotel: a safe place for this protected species to rest and stay. Improving the living environment helps the vulnerable bat population, which is suffering from habitat loss due to new construction and renovation, to recover.
As a Business Friend of Brabants Landschap, Business Park Aviolanda has been actively contributing to nature conservation in the ‘Brabantse Wal’ region for some time. Previous initiatives supported include the purchase of an electrically boat for use on the Markiezaatsmeer lake, a place where many bird species prefer to breed and forage as undisturbed as possible.
In addition, clean rainwater is collected from new construction projects in the park and discharged into the ‘De Vinkenberg’ nature reserve. This means that this valuable water does not disappear into the sewer system, but benefits nature instead.
The collaboration with Brabants Landschap fits seamlessly with the social responsibility of Business Park Aviolanda and, in a broader sense, the Hive Aerospace Collective. There is a shared commitment to operating in a responsible manner and having a positive impact on the living environment in the region.
